License Requirements

An applicant for licensure as an armed private security officer must:

  1. Be at least 18 years old
  2. Meet the minimum requirements
  3. Possess a valid unarmed private security officer license
    OR
    Recently completed an acceptable unarmed private security officer license course

BEFORE taking the armed private security officer license training. If you have a criminal conviction you may be prohibited from obtaining or holding an unarmed or armed private security officer license.

  • The armed private security officer licensing course must be completed in a classroom environment in person. It cannot be completed online
  • If you have had a Utah unarmed or armed private security officer license within the past 2 years (expired on 11/30/2020) you are required to complete ALL applicable continuing education and complete the required training to obtain an armed private security license. You cannot apply as a new applicant.

  • Use Of Deadly Force

Applicants must pass the armed written final examination with at least 80% BEFORE being able to continue to the live-fire range portion of this course.

Shooting Range | 6 Hours

  • Firearm Qualification

Applicants must pass a live-fire shooting test with at least 80% using the firearm they will carry while on duty. As described in R156-63a-601. Operating Standards – Firearms. (1) An armed private security officer shall carry only that firearm with which the officer has passed an approved basic firearms training program.

Course Requirements

Students must;

  • Be at least 18 years old AND meet the minimum requirements
  • Possess a valid unarmed private security officer license or have documentation showing recent completion of an acceptable unarmed private security officer license course
  • Bring a background check obtained within the last 30 days from the Bureau of Criminal Identification to the course
  • Have all the required equipmentIf you do not have these items you will not be able to complete this course
    Be aware of our holster restrictions. Read the required equipment link above!
    We do not provide or rent any firearms, duty gear, or ammunition
  • Have at least 300 rounds of factory new ammunition
    Absolutely No Reloaded Or Specialty Ammunition
  • Have eye & ear protection
  • Have proper clothing (Hat, Collared Shirt, Jacket, etc.)
  • Wear shoes/boots (No Open Toed Shoes or Sandals)
  • Attend ALL training hours, one or two days depending on the scheduled course.
  • MUST pass the armed written final examination BEFORE being able to continue to the live-fire range portion of this course.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION & SAFETY WARNING

  • Handguns MUST BE UNLOADED in a holster, case, or range bag BEFORE entering the building.
  • All firearms will be verified unloaded by the instructor(s) prior to the beginning of the course.
  • NO ammunition will be allowed in the classroom. NO EXCEPTIONS
