Armed Private Security Officer License
Applicants Must Complete ALL Armed Training In Person
No Online Training Is Acceptable
Applicants must complete an approved basic firearms training program consisting of at least six hours of classroom firearms instruction with a passing score requirement of 80% on the final written examination and at least six hours of firearms range instruction through a recognized practical pistol course on which the applicant achieves a minimum score of 80%.
IMPORTANT
- An armed private security officer can only carry the firearm that the officer used and passed an approved firearms qualification course.
- Shotguns and rifles must be owned and issued by the contract security company, and only if the officer has successfully completed an approved basic firearms training program in their use.

Prerequisite: Utah unarmed private security officer license or completed an approved online unarmed private security officer course within the last 12 months
Participants: Minimum 3 Students

Qualification Course Of Fire: 50 Rounds

- Semi-Automatic Handgun
- Duty Holster (minimum level 2 retention)
Cannot be a restricted holster. See Safety Warning - 3 Handgun Magazines
- 2 Magazine Holders
- Sturdy Belt/Duty Belt

- Ammunition – minimum 300 rounds
No Reloaded Or Specialty Ammunition - Cleaning Kit

Course Requirements
- We do not provide or rent firearms, gear, or ammunition. Students must bring all required items to this course. Students who do not have all items will be sent home.
- Students must attend and complete all required training including passing both the written test and live fire range qualification test to complete this course.
Safety Warning
- All firearms must be unloaded and placed in a holster, case, or range bag. The instructor(s) will verify them before students enter the classroom.
- No ammunition is allowed in the classroom. Leave ALL ammunition in your vehicle.
- Restricted Holsters: Any holster such as the Blackhawk SERPA CQC in which the index finger is used to press a button on the side of the holster to release a security mechanism to draw the firearm from the holster are prohibited.
- If a student has a firearm or item that is determined by the instructor to be unreliable or unsafe, the student will not be allowed to use the item. This may affect the student’s ability to attend or continue the course. If you are currently employed by a contract security company as an unarmed private security officer you must ensure you know your employer’s policies concerning firearms, ammunition, and duty gear.
- All students must sign a Waiver and Release of Liability at the beginning of this course.
